I am contemplating the purchase of an e-reader to use my textbook, magazines or texts that I have in pdf format. On my computer, I extensively use annotations on my pdf so I can get to them later. Would annotations made on the ereader be saved on the pdf and when sync’ed accessible on my computer (acrobat) and vice-versa? if not supported on the kindle, which e-reader offers this feature?

This confused me at first too. The picture doesn’t go straight to your Gallery, for some reason a little number pops up on the top left corner of the screen where it says [your name] Kindle. That represents stuff you’ve downloaded. Once you press that you can sort of confirm the downloaded image. Then it will be in your Gallery.

I am looking to get the “Harry Potter” series for my new Kindle2, but I can’t find it on the website to buy it. Anyone know how I can request it? I’ve read on some reveiws that people have requested books to Amazon and they’ve become available after that… Anyone know?

Amazon probably removed the request for kindle button on Harry Potter. JKR is adament that her books not be released in e-book format because she wrote them on paper and so they should be read on paper. She however has no problem turning them into downright horrible movie renditions that leave out most of the plot line!

First make sure the music is acutely on your kindle fire. Next hook a usb cord up to your computer and your kindle fire. Once it is plugged up view the music folder and drag the music you want on to a folder on your computer. Then you can unplug your kindle fire. Now you have the music you want on your computer and you are free to burn a cd.

The iPad looks okay, but I really want more of a dedicated reader device, or at least something more easy on the eyes than the iPad. So I’ll be waiting on the next generation of the iPad or just buy the next Kindle. I’ve read about some really cool screens (Qi or Mirasol) Amazon could use to incorporate color into the Kindle, so… Has anyone heard anything or have any ideas about when the next Kindle will come out?

They haven’t made any sort of announcement yet and they’ll probably keep it pretty close until its time for the release. So no new kindle on the horizon, but in 3-4 months? who knows.

I am interested in purchasing an eInk reader (not the color versions) for reading pdfs. In particular, I am interested in journal articles which are in 2-column format, sometimes with figures or tables. Does anyone have experience with trying to use either of these devices or a different device altogether that can handle pdfs?

It can be a problem. PDF files are generally designed for a standard sheet of paper. The screen on most e readers is only 6 inches, which is considerably smaller. Fitting the page on the screen means the print is too small to read, which means you have to zoom, pan and scan.

You’ll do better with a larger reader like the Kindle DX, or an actual 10″ tablet.
