Question by jacool: can i still use my nikon slr lens with the new nikon digital cameras?
is it practical to sell my nikon slr camera now that digital cameras are being used?
Best answer:
Answer by LEM Yes, with a few exceptions.
First and foremost – your old lenses will most likely mount on the new dSLR bodies, and you will be able to take pictures, unless those lenses and your 35mm body is 50-60 years old or so, even then you may be able to with a few minor modifications.
However, there are a few things you need to know.
1. Unless you go for a full frame body like D3, which retails for $ 5000, your lenses will automatically gain 1.5x the focal length. So your 28-80 lens will become 42-120. This may be good, or bad. Alternatively you’ll need a relatively cheap 18-55 lens to close the gap between what you alerady have and the wide angle you were used to.
2. The cheaper entry-level dSLR bodies won’t be able to auto-focus your older lenses. I mean D40 and D60. You need at least D70 (out of production) or D80 or any one of the more expensive models to do that.
Finally, if you can afford not selling the film body – keep it. There are a few things that film is still better for. For example extremely long exposures, such as 10-15 minutes+ are really not a viable options on digital as of today. So if you’re in habit of shooting meteor showers, city lights in motion or something similar, stick to film for those shots. Also film has far greater dynamic range, so for those shots requiring that feature, you may also consider a film body….
Good luck!
LEM.
P.S. A lot of info (perhaps much more than you wanted to know) about lens compatibility for Nikon can be found here:
Question by BioMajor: Suggestions on the Nikon Coolpix Digital Camera?
I’m super interested in getting the new Nikon Coolpix s630 digital camera, and I was wondering how people like the Nikon brand in general and what you guys would rate it on a scale of 1 to 5 [5 being great quality]. Also, I’ve heard that it doesn’t have a flash feature? And that instead it has some sort of infared technology. If anyone has this camera or one of the closer models, could you tell me how you like it?
Hola again! It’s been a while but this is another video test. But instead of the Panasonic Lumix G2 I’ve bought myself a Toshiba Camelio BW10 because I’m heading off Madagascar and I needed something sturdy (the video kind of explains itself) It’s a great little camera and I thought that I should make a video that assesses all the little features of the camera. I remember when I was looking for a camera I couldn’t find a very good video. So I added in everything I could possibly do so I hope to help people with their video choices! Hope you enjoy!
Question by Dawn [loves jonas]: How do I upload a video from my digital camera, a Nikon Coolpix, to Windows Movie Maker?
I really really need help! I have PictureProject and a Nikon Coolpix, and I need to know ASAP how to put my video from my digital camera (not a video camera) onto movie maker. THANK YOU!

Question by hurin: Can I make my Nikon Coolpix L1 digital camera take infra-red photos?
I am wondering if it is possible to shoot any sort of digital photos with my Nikon Coolpix L1 at night (without flash, for those that might suggest the obvious). Are there any special lenses or attachments that I could purchase that I could rig up to do so? I’ve seen other digital cameras with the IR attachment on top and a “night shoot” option shoot great shots in the dark. So would I have to get a camera specifically built for that purpose, or can something be done?

Question by : Can a Nikon digital camera double as a webcam?
I have been wanting to get a digital camera for awhile now. I had a webcam, but something happened to it and I do not want to have to replace it AND get a digital camera, when I know that some cameras can also be used as webcams. I know that Nikon is a good company but I do not know if their cameras are webcams. If they do not make those types of cameras, can anyone tell me what makers DO have a good quality camera + webcam for a decent price?
Question by boombooshik: What digital camera should I get instead of Nikon D40?
I have a Nikon D40. Although it takes quite nice pictures, I find that I don’t use it that much because it’s too big for me to carry everywhere and is a bit impractical for me, personally.
I’m going to sell it and put the money towards another camera. Please can you recommend anything?
Best answer:
Answer by screwdriver A lot of pro’s, myself included, use a Canon G10 which give very good results, but your D40 will give better particularly in low light. The bottom line is for image quality you can’t beat a large sensor, but that obviously does mean a larger camera.
Question by MixedGurl: Is the Nikon Coolpix s600 a good digital camera?
I’m going to buy a camera in a few weeks and the Nikon camera that I mentioned seemed really good but I wanna know from anyone’s experience or if they think it’s a good camera or not. my budget is around $ 200 but I saw that it’s $ 240 or sumthing like that. is that true and could you please give me info. on it. I want a camera that can overall take good quality pics. please & thank you !
Best answer:
Answer by Chad Well the Nikon Coolpix s600 throws you off because it already has the word “cool” in it, so basically you’re probably getting ripped off there already. If you want a camera that can take good pics for cheap you should get the Sony Acid Erricson 7.0. It is amazing! The other product you should get is Sony Acid 7.0 before buying it, and you can get that by just downloading it.

Question by princesaLatina: Which Nikon digital camera do you recommend?
